A multi-million dollar mansion that was up for sale in Albemarle County is now just a burnt pile of rubble.
Fire marshals are trying to figure out what started the blaze on Belle Vista Drive just after 4 Sunday morning. Firefighter say when they got to the vacant house just off Stony Point Road, it was completely engulfed in flames that lit up the night sky.
Firefighters spent six hours battling the blaze.
The estate sits on top of a ridge and can be seen for miles. Neighbors saw the blaze and called 911. Fire crews say the house did have a sprinkler system. They are looking into whether or not it was working.
Investigators say they have also not ruled out arson. According to a real estate listing, the home was up for sale at nearly $4 million.
