Police Investigate Double Fatal Accident

Posted: Updated:

Virginia State Police are reconstructing a crash scene where two motorcyclists were killed this afternoon in Augusta County. The head-on collision happened around 12:30 along a curvy stretch of Route 250 about a half a mile west of Route 629 (Deerfield Valley Road) in west Augusta.

The collision involved 2 motorcyclists. Police say 51-year-old Michael Neve of Midlothian crossed the double yellow line striking 53-year-old Delbert Walton Redman Junior of Troy head on. One person died on the scene and the second died on his way to the hospital.

Investigators spent much of the afternoon piecing together the scene that spanned both sides of the highway. While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, police say speed was not a factor in the crash. It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs may have played a role.

First responders from the Deerfield Valley Fire Department and the Churchville Rescue Squad were directing traffic around the scene for much of the afternoon.

The crash scene is the same location where a truck collided with three motorcycles at the end of May, sending 5 people to the hospital.
