Around 600 cyclists on Saturday pedaled along the roads of Albemarle County on a mission to fight multiple sclerosis.
The ride was part of the Multiple Sclerosis Society's Tour de Vine Bike Ride. Cyclists started at the Miller School and biked routes from 25 to 100 miles.
Organizers hope the two-day ride will help raise $450,000 for MS research and patient support.
“A large percent of it will stay here in the public,” said Shannon Tevendale with the MS Society’s Blue Ridge chapter. “We serve about 3,000 constituents here in the Blue Ridge chapter living with MS and their families, so we have different programs and services that we offer to the community to help promote their daily life.”
The bike ride will continue Sunday morning.
The MS Society is offering live music and a wine tasting for the cyclists who are staying for Sunday's trip.
