Nearly a dozen students from Charlottesville's Tandem Friends School will spend the next week helping the Gulf Coast recover from Hurricane Katrina.
The students will work on houses along the Mississippi Gulf Coast through the group Mission on the Bay.
The trip is part of Tandem's "Emphasis Week" which allows students to pursue special projects in various parts of the world.
"It makes me feel not so small in the world," said Connor Kennedy, a Tandem ninth-grader. "It makes me feel like I can make a difference just by doing something small, like maybe moving a refrigerator or something will help somebody."
After working hard in Mississippi, the students will return Sunday and start their spring break.
