Graffiti at Charlottesville's Maplewood Cemetary is gone. City officials say broken tombstones still have to be repaired. The city is getting a nearby neighborhood involved through a problem-solving project to help keep criminal activity in the area to a minimum. Charlottesville officials say a police officer is also assigned to the program.
"She'll be going through the neighborhoods talking to them, watching for suspicious behavior...and just trying to keep an eye on things to see if we can get some common themes going," said city spokesman Ric Barrick. Barrick says spring and summer cemetery management is generally more visible, and the city will monitor the site closely with upkeep.
