Greene County Sheriff Scott Haas tells NBC29 that a neighbor tried to get into the house when the fire broke out around 9:30 Friday morning, but was pushed back by the heat and flames. Haas says the neighbor tried to pour buckets of water on the fire, but was unable to get under control before firefighters arrived.
Investigators are on the scene trying to determine the cause of the fire. Investigators say the victim of the fire is a man in his 70's and are trying to notify his next of kin. They are not revealing the identity of the man.
