Hundreds of young women said goodbye to college life with a degree in hand in Staunton Sunday morning.
More than 330 women graduated from Mary Baldwin College in the Class of 2009. Graduates filled the Page Terrace and were encouraged by commencement speakers to prepare to face life's challenges.
Parents took pride in their daughters' accomplishments. "Over the last four years I have watched her grow into a mature woman. She's class president. She strived in her major, which is theater. I just saw her come into her own," said Kenneth Howard.
Hundreds of people filled the college's lawn early for a good view of the ceremony. This year's graduating class is the largest the school has seen in three years.
