It's been a difficult and sometimes frustrating season for the Cavalier men's basketball team but the future appears bright with superstar Sylven Landesberg. Tuesday, the freshman from New York City was the overwhelming choice for ACC Rookie of the Year.
Landesberg led all ACC freshmen in scoring at almost 17 points per game.
He received 55 votes for the Rookie of the Year award. Wake Forest forward Al-Farouq Aminu was a distant second, getting 20 votes.
Landesberg becomes only the fourth Wahoo to win the award, joining Chris Williams in 1999, Bryant Stith in 1989 and Ralph Sampson is 1980.
"I'm just grateful and surprised. There's a lot of great rookies in this league, Al-Farouq, Elliott Williams, Ed Davis. Just being able to be noticed as one of the top freshman is just a blessing. Just having the support of my coaches and teammates helped me get through this year," said Landesberg.
