Local high school baseball standout Kyle Long may be turning in his baseball bat for a football helmet.
Cavscorner.com is reporting that Long intends to enroll at the University of Virginia this summer and join Al Groh's football program in the fall. Howie Long told NBC29 Wednesday that this report is premature and that Kyle is concentrating solely on academics right now.
Kyle Long was an outstanding lineman at Saint Anne's Belfield. He was recruited by just about every major college football program in the country, including Ohio State and Southern Cal. He chose to play baseball, signing with Florida State, but after just one semester at FSU he dropped out. Long is now back in Central Virginia taking courses at Piedmont Community College.
If Long does join Al Groh's team, he would likely redshirt in 2009 and have three years of playing eligibility starting in 2010.
