A Nelson County fire that killed a mother and son last month has been ruled accidental. The fire happened just after 1 a.m. on January 30 at a home on Orchard Park Lane, across from Stage Bridge Road off Route 29.
Three people made it out of the home safely but just barely. With the help of a passing truck driver and the first officer on scene, two young girls and their father were able to get out safely.
Fire investigators say the fire started along the south wall of the home and they cannot rule out the possibility that it started in the fireplace.
