Eight Buckingham County families are living away from home and wondering how they are going to rebuild their lives after a fire destroyed their home and all their belongings. The fire has been ruled an accident, but some people call it careless.
Fire victim Polly Flowers isn't calm about what happened. "I'm very angry right now. I can't even walk away from this fire, because like I said, this is all I had."
The landlord says the fire started the stove in an upstairs apartment. "Someone was cooking and left the stove unattended, and that's something you don't do," said Flowers. "Like I said, it's a careless fire. It shouldn't have happened."
The fire claimed everything. The Red Cross is helping the tenants, but that help won't last forever. Buckingham County Social Services says some of the residents may qualify for emergency aid.
The landlord hopes to rebuild the home.
