You don't have to spend a lot of money or join a big, fancy gym to live a healthy life.
The idea behind the new "Local Motion" campaign is to encourage people of all fitness levels to become more active, taking advantage of the outdoor spaces around Charlottesville and Albemarle County.
The new campaign is designed to make a long-term difference in the life of Central Virginians.
“The idea is to improve our health as a community as well as to improve well-being and stress reduction. You don't have to be an athlete…just getting outside, enjoying yourself and enjoying your family, that's really the way to go,” said Karen Waters, executive director of Quality Community Council.
Since 1990, Virginia's obesity rate has climbed 154 percent.
