LOS ANGELES (AP) - Denard Span hit two of Washington's four homers, Gio Gonzalez got his first victory of the second half and the Nationals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 Monday night in a matchup of division leaders. Gonzalez allowed three runs and three hits in six-plus innings.

BALTIMORE (AP) - Joe Mauer drove in four runs, Phil Hughes held Baltimore without an earned run over eight innings and the Minnesota Twins beat the Orioles 6-4 Monday to avoid a four-game sweep. Nelson Cruz hit his major-league leading 36th home run and Nick Hundley had a three-run shot for the Orioles.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - The uproar over the Washington Redskins name is nothing new to the team's new punter. Tress Way played in high school for the Union Redskins in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where the team runs through a teepee to take the field and the ubiquitous slogan is "All my life I want to be a Redskin." Way says there would be protesters at the games.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Greyson Lambert's tenure as the face of Virginia football didn't even last until halftime of the season opener. He was replaced by Matt Johns. Coach Mike London says he'll decide Saturday who'll start when Virginia hosts Richmond.
