The top two teams in men's college lacrosse play each other Friday night in Upstate New York.
Virginia and Syracuse are tied for the #1 ranking in this week's coaches poll.
It's the first time in 26 years there's been a tie for the top spot in that poll.
Junior attackman Steele Stanwick says, "Even if the teams weren't even ranked, I think it'd still be a big rivalry. But I think the fact that both teams are ranked high adds something to it, naturally. We know they're a great team, so we're going to have to be ready to go on Friday."
Both teams are undefeated this season, as Virginia is 4-0, and Syracuse is 3-0.
UVA senior captain Bray Malphus says, "It defies logic. You'd think with these wins we have we'd be confident. It doesn't matter, its Syracuse. Regardless of when it is, we're always going to be ready to show up and play that game."
Head coach Dom Starsia says, "We've got two teams, the sense is that we're going to tee this up and get after it. We're going to see how well some of the lessons have stuck, that we've been working on since the beginning of the year. Preparation is not a lot more complicated than that."
This is the third straight season where Virginia and Syracuse have met as the top two ranked teams.
Junior midfielder Colin Briggs says, "It's just an awesome rivalry between these two schools. We both like to play fast, and get up-and-down the field. It's a historic match-up, so it's a great game."
The 'Hoos have beaten the Orange three straight times in the Carrier Dome, and the teams face-off Friday at 6pm.
