Absentee Ballots' Suit Comes to an End

Posted: Updated:

Virginia election officials have agreed to take steps to make sure military members and Americans living overseas get a chance to cast absentee ballots.

The agreement ends a lawsuit filed by Republican presidential candidate John McCain in 2008. The suit claimed absentee ballots were not mailed to Virginians living outside the commonwealth in time to be counted.

The new agreement provides training, monitoring, and backup procedures to make sure absentee ballots are sent out at least 45 days before a federal election.
