This is not the first time the Obamas have visited Monticello.
One year after their last visit, Michelle and Sasha Obama returned to central Virginia on Thursday to visit some famous landmarks. It was a vacation of sorts for Mrs. Obama and her youngest daughter, and the first time the first family has made a repeat trip to a tourist location.
The Obamas started their afternoon in central Virginia in Luray visiting the caverns. They also ate at the restaurant A Moment To Remember. An employee there said Mrs. Obama was very gracious, very pleasant, and represented the White House well.
The Obamas then made the trip to Monticello. Security was tight, and no cameras were allowed at Monticello on Thursday as Michelle and Sasha's motorcade came rolling in for a private tour around the grounds.
This is not the first time the Obamas have visited Monticello. The family was here last summer, and eventually took a piece of Monticello home with them. Mrs. Obama had a few of Jefferson's favorite vegetables planted in the White House garden from seeds donated by Monticello.
The Thomas Jefferson Foundation released a statement about the first family's travels saying if any other members of the Obama family want to visit in the future, they would be happy to have them.
