Albemarle celebrated National Farmers Market Week with a farmers market at the county office building.
National Farmers Market Week is underway and farmers are showcasing the fruits of their labor.
Wednesday, the lobby of the Albemarle County Office Building was transformed into a farmers market. The Local Food Hub teamed up with the Boys & Girls Club to sell fresh produce. The idea is to teach teens real life job skills and promote health.
"There's a growing obesity rate especially in our area and across our country and this is an effort to target that through education; our kids learn about why it's important to eat local," explained James Pierce of the Boys & Girls Club of Central Virginia.
The Local Food Hub farmers market will be held every Thursday at the Southwood Community Center in Albemarle and will run from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.
