Peabody Students Plant Garden For Hungry

Posted: Updated:

A group of third-graders at the Peabody Day School in Albemarle County is getting their hands dirty for a good cause. The kids are teaming up with the Local Food Hub to plant a garden for the hungry.

The project is part of the Local Food Hub's "Plant a Row" project that encourages people to plant vegetables to be donated to area food banks.

"This garden was really overgrown," explained program organizer Charity Donnelly. "So we've been working all last week and this week to get it ready."

All of the plants were donated to the school by the Local Food Hub and Fifth Season Gardening Company.

The kids and their families will take turns taking care of the garden throughout the summer months.
