Tony Tchani Leaving UVA For MLS

Posted: Updated:

Tony Tchani was a big reason why the UVA men's soccer team won a national championship this season, but Tchani has decided to leave the Cavaliers and go pro.

The current sophomore is projected to be the 1st or 2nd overall pick of the MLS SuperDraft.

He was a first team All-America selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) and College Soccer News.

Tchani scored eight goals and had four assists in 2009, and was selected to the ACC All-Tournament team, the All-ACC second team, and the NCAA College Cup All-Tournament team.

The 2008 ACC Freshman of the Year, Tchani finishes his Virginia career with 16 goals, seven assists, and four game-winning goals.

Virginia coach George Gelnovatch says he supports Tchani's decision, and wishes him the best.
