The #6 UVA men's soccer team won the ACC Championship Sunday in Cary, North Carolina. The Cavaliers beat #20 North Carolina State 1-0. Freshman Will Bates scored the only goal of the game in the 16th minute. It's his team-leading eighth goal of the year. ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player Diego Restrepo posted his eighth straight shutout in goal.
Virginia won its 10th ACC title, first since 2004. UVA is 8-0-3 in its last eleven matches. The NCAA will announce the field of 48 teams for the NCAA Tournament Monday at 5:30 p.m. The Cavaliers earned the ACC's automatic bid.
The UVA women's soccer team scored six unanswered goals in a 20 minute span of the second half as the Cavaliers beat #9 Penn State 6-2 Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Virginia is in the Sweet 16 for the fifth straight season.
