RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Eighty-five National Guard soldiers who served several months in Afghanistan are returning to Virginia.

Seventy-five soldiers from the 276th Engineer Battalion are scheduled to return Sunday to the Virginia National Guard Aviation Facility. A press release from the Virginia National Guard says another 10 will be flying to Tri-Cities Airport in Bristol.

The soldiers had spent the past several days at Camp Shelby in Mississippi.

The battalion, known as "Task Force Pirate," cleared explosives from roads in Afghanistan, among other missions. The National Guard says the battalion conducted more than 1,000 missions since February, clearing 15,000 pounds of explosives from roads.
