New UVA Head Basketball Coach Tony Bennett says point guard, Calvin Baker probably won't be able to play in the season opener Friday. Baker is still recovering from knee surgery.
Without Baker, Bennett will have to rely on Sammy Zelglinski and freshman Jontel Evans to pick up some of the slack against Longwood Friday.
Bennett also will be without center Assane Sene, whom he suspended for the first 3 games of the season for violating team rules.
Bennett has been working hard with his team in practice, hoping to get his guys to play his kind of basketball.
Bennett says, “Here's my philosophy, and sometimes I'll say it to the guys before the games. Get as many good uncontested shots as you can, and make the opponent shoot as many tough contested shots. Defensively we want to make people work and not break us down defensively, protect the lane, make them shoot contested shots.”
