Waynesboro VPAS Drivers Hold Rodeo

Posted: Updated:

They didn't rope any cows, and nobody was wearing a ten-gallon hat at a Waynesboro rodeo Thursday, but there was plenty of careful driving.

Volunteer drivers with the Valley Program for Aging Services got to show off their skills as van and bus drivers.

They had to navigate through an obstacle course to show how nimble they are behind the wheel.

Donald Steele is a VPAS van driver. "We want drivers just to keep in touch with their better driving qualities.  That's what we hope this does.  We want them to get in tight and not hit things and work with a partner outside of the vehicle."

The drivers take seniors to appointments across the valley. The rodeo is part of the program's effort to put new safety policies and procedures in gear.
