Local Students Read For The Record

Posted: Updated:

The children's book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle was cracked open thousands of times across the country today.

It's all part of the fourth annual "Read For The Record" day.

Schools across the country tried to break the reading record today and Charlottesville schools like walker upper elementary did their part to increase the numbers.

Media Specialist Rebecca Flowers says "The goal behind this is to promote reading and to promote families reading together and people reading together and reading to younger children and just promoting literacy."

Last year, 688,000 people broke open the same book to beat the record.
