NBC292 UVA Football Players Out for Rest of Season

2 UVA Football Players Out for Rest of Season

Posted: Updated:

UVA Head Football Coach Al Groh's offense showed signs of life this weekend but the end-result was still the same.

This time, the Cavalier defense should take some of the blame as Virginia blew a 17-point, second half lead to fall to Southern Miss 37-34. The Cavaliers are now 0-3 for the first time ever under Al Groh.

There's more bad news: Virginia freshman running back Dominique Wallace is out for the rest of the season with a bad foot. He'll have to have surgery.

Wallace was Virginia's leading rusher against Southern Miss, with 35 yards on 10 carries. Junior safety Matt Leemhuis is also out for the year with a clavical fracture.

Virginia's next game is a week from Saturday at North Carolina. The game will kick off at noon.
