Albemarle County Supervisor Ken Boyd told his supporters Monday that he'll run for the Fifth District House seat. Boyd sent out an email to supporters announcing he will seek the Republican nomination.
Boyd says he wants to stop overspending in Congress and thinks he has the best chance to win. He also says fiscal responsibility will be the centerpiece of his campaign.
"I think the economy is certainly a big issue in Congress these days and I hope to bring some financial background and some experience working with large scale budgets to the table," stated Boyd (R).
He will be filing his paperwork in the coming days. At this point, it is unclear if Republicans will hold a primary or a convention for the nomination. Whoever wins the nomination will face Perriello in the fall 2010 election.
