Obama Promotes Health Care Plan in Northern Virginia

Posted: Updated:

President Obama says this is the time to address the nation's health care needs. The president promoted his plan to do that Wednesday at a town hall meeting in Annandale, Virginia.

Obama wants to extend coverage to more Americans and create a public insurance system to compete with private programs. He promises to keep costs in check.   But, the president says reform needs to happen now.

"People say the costs of fixing our problems are great and in some cases they are. The costs of inaction, of not doing anything, are even greater," Obama told the crowd.

Obama told his critics that he understands that they may have concerns but says they shouldn't reject his healthcare plan unless they have one of their own to offer.
