A Charlottesville man who University of Virginia police say disguised himself as a construction worker to sneak into buildings on-grounds is facing a list of charges.
Police say Robert Smith stole a purse from a university office on Emmett Street Tuesday and when someone tried to stop him, he forced his way out, hitting one of them with his car. The person hit by the car was treated and released from UVA Medical Center.
Smith now faces malicious wounding, breaking and entering and grand larceny charges. He is being held at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail.

Charlottesville Man Charged with Malicious Wounding, Breaking and Entering and Grand Larceny
The University of Virginia Police charged Robert Smith of 802-M Hardy Drive, Charlottesville, Virginia with one count each of malicious wounding, breaking and entering and grand larceny after an incident at 918 North Emmet Street on the afternoon of June 29, 2009.
Mr. Smith entered an occupied office building dressed as a construction worker. While in the building he took a purse belonging to a University employee and fled on foot. The employee followed behind alerting others that he had stolen her purse. Mr. Smith struck a second employee with the car that he was driving as the employee attempted to stop him from leaving the scene. The employee struck by Mr. Smith's car was treated and released from the UVA Emergency Department.
University Police arrested Mr. Smith at his residence on June 30, 2009 without incident. He is being held in the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail at this time.
